Mission control for your programmer.

PICkitXtra brings full support for Microchip’s current programmers and debuggers. Program PIC and AVR targets using the familiar PICkitPlus workflow from the UI or CLI.
Program, debug, and simulate directly from GC Studio, fully integrated into its native environment, with no compromises on the project you’ve already built.

8-bit to 32-bit, All of it

PIC and AVR targets across the full architecture range — from classic 8-bit PIC16 and ATtiny to 16-bit dsPIC and PIC24, all the way up to 32-bit PIC32. One tool, every tier.

Packages, not guesswork

The built-in package manager lets you install device and programmer support in seconds. Browse, select, and update — no manual file hunting, no version conflicts.

Familiar from day one

The interface follows the PICkitPlus workflow you already know. Every control where you expect it, every operation behaving exactly as it should — whether you’re a first-time user or migrating from years of PICkit2 habit.

CLI-ready for automation

Every operation available in the UI is equally accessible from the command line. Script your programming sequences, integrate into build pipelines, and automate production workflows without touching a mouse.

Stop guessing. Debug on real hardware

PICkitXtra integrates directly into GC Studio, giving you full hardware and simulator debugging without leaving your IDE. Set breakpoints, inspect registers, step through your GC BASIC code line by line, and watch variables update in real time — all running on your actual target device. No round-trips to external tools, no context switching.

Supported Tools, From hobbyist to professional-grade tools

PICkitXtra supports the full current lineup of Microchip programmers and debuggers — from the entry-level SNAP and PICkit Basic, the popular PICkit 4/5 to the professional ICD 5 and ICE 4. Whatever hardware is on your bench, it works.
Microchip supported tools including ICD 3, Real ICE, PM 3, and PKOB are also supported, though part coverage is limited by the hardware capabilities of each tool. If you’re still running older hardware, you’re not left behind — just check the compatibility list before you commit to a target.
For legacy PICkit 2 and PICkit 3 tools, we recommend PICkitPlus Here.
